Even though it seems like the world was simpler in the past, there have always been news and geopolitical events with the potential to affect the stock market.
Yes, the stock market is risky, but that’s the point: No risk, no return.
But if you believe you can accurately predict which news events will affect the market, and how that will turn out, good luck. News events don’t necessarily affect markets in the way you think they will. If it were that easy to predict whether and when a geopolitical or economic development would send stocks up or down, don’t you think everybody would be clued into that?
Investing always carries risks, although there are ways to mitigate that, without sticking to some stale “buy and hold” portfolio that fails to address current market conditions.
